WITSA Announces AI Declaration at WCIT 2023

in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia: World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), the leading global tech association, is proud to announce the WITSA Artificial Intelligence (AI) Declaration on the third day of the 27th World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2023 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Acceded to by WITSA members from 80 member countries and economies, theitled Shaping the Future Through Ethical, Inclusive, Sustainable and Innovative AI embodies their commitment to responsible and ethical development, deployment, and governance of artificial intelligence.

It is also a window into the WITSA AI Position Paper that recommends a careful and common-sense approach to harnessing the opportunities and addressing the risks arising from the rapid innovations in artificial intelligence, putting the spotlight on best practices, standards and regulation to help ensure that AI systems deployed are ethical, fair, transparent and accountable.

Dr. Sean Seah remarked on the occasion, "Today, we stand with 80 members and economies at a pivotal juncture in history. The AI Declaration is not just a testament to our shared commitment to use AI for good and positively, but a clarion call to nations worldwide. Our members have made a commitment to champion this cause in their respective economies and work towards collaborating with their governments to adopt and uphold the tenets of this declaration."

Dato’ Dan E Khoo, CEO of WITSA said, "Innovation and trust in new technologies, including AI, are best supported when policy objectives and regulatory requirements make use of voluntary consensus-driven standardization, to support implementation and compliance. To avoid slowing AI innovation and beneficial adoption, regulations should adhere to a specific list of policy principles.”

In light of the rapidly evolving landscape of AI and its profound impact on economies, societies, and individuals, the AI Declaration provides a foundational framework for international cooperation and understanding.

The AI Declaration marks a significant step forward, and it is only the beginning for a revolution as foundational as AI. WITSA strives to position digital technology and the digital economy as the new strategic pillar for our global community, to become a global digital ambassador and accelerator in order to promote the value of digital transformation as the key catalyst for economic growth and social prosperity, to promote greater international cooperation by supporting multilateral win-win trade agreements, and to drive awareness of the competitive advantage of the digital technology industry.
