The awards operate through a two-tier process: participating member associations run a standardized national nomination and selection process to identify one national nominee per category, and a WITSA-appointed Global Judging Panel evaluates those nominees and may confer global awards on multiple winners per category.

This structure ensures local knowledge informs national nominations while a single, impartial standard governs the final awards.
